since you've been gone

i've been hiatusing for a while now.  i have so much to catch up on and of course logan won't cooperate.
le sigh.

i'll post some pictures.

i tried to make an outfit post before i left georgia.  i'm not happy with it.  i need to get a good camera instead of my crappy phone.  or get my freaking holga.  so at least they look cool.  or take some detail shots.  i guess it's all up from here kids.

dress: thrift  shoes: target  necklace: forever 21

well, if you know me... you know i have this unnatural obsession with target.  the closest one to my grandma's house was like 100 miles away so i've been going through major withdrawal.  logan and i took a trip to the bradenton one last week.  as far as targets go, it was puny, but i was pretty happy just to be in my mecca again.  he was kind enough to document my explorations since he was bored in the shopping cart.

i enjoy logan pictures.  he gets interesting angles.  i think i have some more on my phone i could put up.  he's my little lomographer.

here's an embarrassing one of him, for good measure.
i'm so leaving this up until he starts dating.

okay, onto the next.  i'll try to post more frequently.
maybe queue some up.

Favorite superhero & why?

I don't like this question.  I would say Batman, but he's not technically a superhero.  He's a vigilante.  Which imo is completely better than superhero.  A vigilante isn't born with superpowers.  He has a keen mind and takes what God gave him and Macguyver's the hell out of it and kicks total ass.
I could also say Wolverine since I named my son after him (sort of) (and in retrospect I should have picked the Hulk because he's so freaking huge and angry... lol), but again, Wolverine is not a superhero.  He is a mutant.  Mutants are closer to superheroes because they have superior talents, but they weren't necessarily born with them.  A lot of times, these abilities are thrust upon them without their consent.  They do the best they can however, and save the world, even though the world doesn't understand them.  I guess this is what makes them 'super' heroes.

I'm sorry, I've gone and confused myself.  Could you please repeat the question?

I leave you with the original 'superman' desiring a cookie.

A picture of somewhere you've been.

the face I am making is due to the fact that I don't like beer.
Okay, well I picked this picture for a few reasons.  First of all, St. Louis is freaking awesome.  It's probably in the top 3 or 4 places I'd like to move to.  That feels like bad English, but I'm not positive.  I really need to get an old school Grammar book.  Anyways, I love the colors in this picture.  The red and goldy/coppery/bronze, my coat is like an khaki green.  My hair was totes perfect in St. Louis too.  The weather was nice and cold with no humidity.  It was a glorious length and the color was pretty righteous.  Not the point.  The main point,
or the reason I most picked this picture, besides how semi-enjoyable my trip was, is in the lower right corner.  You can barely see it.   That is my favorite purse EVER.  Right now, it is sitting in a storage unit down in stupid Fort Myers, missing me I'm sure.  Well maybe not, but I am missing it.  I had finally switched it out for summer before I came up here and now that it's approaching fall, I really need it!  Someday, we will be reunited and it will feel so good.

I'm sorry, I digress so much.

feel good, inc.

I've kinda had my guitar tuned to sad* lately.  It seems like nothing has been going right.  I know some of it can be attributed to mercury retrogradin', but lesigh.  I feel pretty impotent about everything.
*(urbandictionary.com)

I've come across a few things that have made me smile and I wanted to share them.

I'm a big fan of Abraham Lincoln stuff so this commercial makes me giggle:

JGL is pretty much perfect.  Like you would never even want to date him perfect because you would never want any reason to think he's not.

I came across GMH today and it's super cute and heart-warming. "It's like fml for optimists"

Finally,  House marathons make me smile.  Idk, I just can't get enough.  I have a problem.

edit:  HOLY RATTLESNAKES
I had to throw this in here because I've been on a Neutral Milk Hotel kick & this particular video is glorious.

Lastly, (for real this time) I'll leave you with a picture of Paul Rudd looking serious about a giant pickle.  I don't like pickles, but I do enjoy me some PR.
pickle you, kumquat.

cheers!

A habit you wish you didn't have:

This one is easy... Biting my nails!!!  I've never seen my real nails longer than my fingertips & I've never been able to stop no matter what I paint on them.  TRAGIC.

Props to me for finally quitting smoking though.  I do die for a cigarette every now and then, but I remain strong.  .

tuesday night's alright for reading

Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil

I love (times infinity) this book.  Just look at the cover, so beautiful and perfect for this book.

From wikipedia: "The title alludes to the hoodoo notion of "midnight"; the period between the time for good magic and the time for evil magic; in "the garden of good and evil," which refers principally to Bonaventure Cemetery."

This book is a true story, centered around Savannah and based on a murder at the Mercer house.  The book talks about the different characters that reside in Savannah and its in a kind of Gothic style, with the voodoo and whatnot.

I really do completely love this book.  I haven't read it in a couple years and now I'm absolutely itching to.  The way it is written, you can not tell it's a non-fiction book.  It engrosses you and the characters are very colorful.  I think my favorite is the Lady Chablis.

I enjoy the movie, I am a huge John Cusack fan, but nothing compares to the book, natch.  So if you enjoyed the movie you must read the book.

When we went to Savannah last month, I really wanted to go on the walking tour.  We didn't have enough time, probably because it was imperative that I go to a Target (I have this really bad addiction and where I have been staying has no Target at all) so I chose cute clothes over MitGoGaE.  Don't worry, Target was almost everything I dreamed of, and we did manage to drive by the Mercer house on the way to Forsyth Park and I took a total goober picture.  There's always next time.

we<3it

I'm kind of an astrological nut.  I mean not to the extent that I don't get out of bed if my horoscope says it's going to be a bad day, I do take it all with a grain of salt.  I enjoy looking at the charts of people I meet and learning where their Moon and Mercury and what not are.  Some people scoff, but if you are a 'why, why, why?' person like me, you'll be amazed at how the positioning of your planets at the time of your birth affects your personality. Tarot.com is my favorite place to get horoscopes from because they tend to be pretty spot on.  This one for today, is so ridiculously me:

"You like gathering information even when it's not helpful. Today, however, the earthy Virgo Moon gives you the analytical tools you need to sort through the data and keep only what you can use. Although you may find a way to balance your unquenchable curiosity with your current penchant for practicality, it's still easy for you to forget what you're doing now and get distracted by something that looks like fun."

Thats all for now.

music monday

I'm letting my iTunes pick the band.

google images

Okay, here's a secret.  I had listened to them before but never really paid attention.  Last year when I was getting gung ho for Bonnaroo & then after I was like 'what is wrong with me?  YYY is AMAZEBALLS!'  So then I was all about them.  Karen O is effing awesome.  But I'm sure you all are quite aware.

cliche KO pic (google images, i think)

waaaaaaaaiting

it's really freaking hard deciding which songs to post because they are all sooooo incredibly good.

this video always makes me cry.  that one tear is so powerful.

i love this one:  Yeah Yeah Yeahs- Pin

Final note:  when you look at the word 'yeah' a lot, it starts to be funny looking and you wonder if you've spelled it wrong.

The meaning behind your blog name:

Okay, well I'm in the process of turning it all over to saltwatertiffy something.  I haven't decided yet.  I wanted it to be like 'saltwatertiffy:  sticky & sweet' but that sounds pretty pervy and I don't want it to be taken as that.  Its like 'I'm a nice girl and I'm a borderline hot mess' contradictory style thing, but....  eh.  whatever.  I've always had like a million nicknames, but saltwatertiffy has stuck the longest.  Since like 2003 or 4.  It fits because I'm from Florida and grew up on the beach and stuff.  I'm moving back next week so it's pretty relevant too.  I'm not so crazy about salt water taffy, however.  Laughy Taffy is good on occasion, if it's banana.

haha today I got these huge owls for the new house.

Recent picture & 15 interesting facts about yourself:

1.  I'm 27 and have never seen snow irl.
2.  I'm like Amy Winehouse with ballet flats, except mine are leopard print.  I should probably find a different go-to shoe, but come on, leopard ballet flats are like, perfection.
3.  I'm a ridiculously huge Phil Collins fan.
4.  I've had like 15 jobs so far (yikes).  Mostly because I've had several employers go out of business & some were part time jobs I worked at the same time as my main full time job.  I should have just gone away to college.
5.  My favorite car was named Mr. Ruff Rider.  He was an '82 Toyota Tercel.  He would still be alive if I could have found the proper water pump for him.  I miss him.  He was good times and people described him as having 'lots of character'.  lol.
6.  My boyfriend is going to grad school for Russian Lit & I really respect him for it.  Legit.
7.  I'm paranoid about people somehow remotely accessing my webcam while I'm picking my nose or something so I have to always have a sticker over the thingy.
8.  I've flown a plane before.  Well it was a little Piper cub type one and it was for like 2 minutes, but it was pretty invigorating nonetheless.  I remember my mom freaking the eff out that I was even going up in one.
9.  I know entirely too much about astrology.
10.  I have green eyes.  I wish they were brown 50% of the time.
11.  My hugest pet peeve is when people use the wrong form of to/too/two.  A lot of grammar errors glare at me.  I try very hard not to make them myself.  That being said, I do use stupid made up words a lot and rarely capitalize.  I guess its okay because I know the rules (for the most part).
12.   I used to write for the newspaper.  Sadly the only article I have online anymore is total crap.  :(
13.  If I could have dinner/lunch/tea with anyone from past or present I would pick Albert Einstein.  Close seconds are Abraham Lincoln and Ezra Koenig (natch).
14.  Russian Standard is my favorite vodka.  It was created by the same guy who created the Periodic Table of the Elements.  Wild Turkey American Honey is my other favorite alcoholic drink.  It is mmm mmm good.
15.  I really like science.  Specifically:  Chemistry.

happy september

he inspires me so.  good thing i just got all those sharpies.  at the very least i will be making the R2-D2 trashcan.

hey story about sharpies.  one time i was at the swap shop in fort lauderdale (my absolute favorite florida city) and i found this rainbow pack of sharpies for a pretty good deal so purchased them.  upon further inspection i realized they were not actually sharpies.  they were shoupies.
wikipedia
total facepalm moment.

modcloth put up these shoes today:
and they took my breath away.
ohmygoodness.  they are the most glorious footwear i have ever seen in my life.
they are absolute art for your feet.

and there are more!  so many more beautiful shoes.
their website is like disneyland on the interweb,
even better than that hello kitty one i posted a few weeks ago.
mostly because it is in a language i understand
and its fabulous shoes and not nasty fruit flavored cheetos.
but anyways, go there and feast your eyes.  they even have shoes for men.
i wish i lived in the uk (the selection there is a little better) and could capture them all and keep them in a menagerie.

siiiiiigh.  to be fair, i do have this shoe thing.  i worked at a shoe store for 3+ years and have well over 100 pairs of shoes in my collection.  thankfully i'm 5'10" and have the size of feet that go with that height or i would have so many more shoes in my life.

the weather has been really nice in georgia lately.  it's like the humidity is gone and i can smell fall in the air.  i hope florida catches up soon since i am going back next week.
logan and i were down by the lake today because apparently there are some otters living there and we wanted to see them.  logan, bless his dear clumsy soul, fell in.  it was only halfway and i was able to rescue him, but it was pretty funny.  sadly, we did not see the otters.  maybe next time.  i'll take pictures.

turn the page to tuesday

um.  i'm stretching.  but i really enjoy reading and i couldn't think of anything more creative.

this week i chose

when i originally read it, it wasn't because oprah told me to or anything.  i just liked the sprinkles.
when i'm looking for something to read i often gravitate towards rehab memoirs.  i don't know why this is.  i think it's because i can't relate so i want to figure out how drug addiction happens.

anyways.  a million little pieces by james frey.

there is a lot of controversy over this book and it's kinda crazy how mixed the reviews are.  i guess you'll have that with anything but some people are so upset that this is not 100% factual.  whatevs, that's not the point here.  as a story, i think it was amazing.

i really enjoy james frey's writing style.  it's very unique and super stream of conscious (of course i would be a fan of that).  it really draws you in.  i'm one of those silly people who naturally gets sucked into almost everything i read/watch, but this one was exceptional.  holy crap, at times i was completely drained, just from reading!  i felt the things he was writing about and it screwed with my head a bit.  i realize that this sounds like a bad thing, but for a writer to have such extreme power with words just blows my mind.

i liked his first book so much i had to read his follow up, my friend leonard, and his total fiction piece bright shiny morning.  of the three, i liked my friend leonard the best, probably because it was sort of a love story.  so if you read a million little pieces you have to read my friend leonard too.  but i will warn you, these books are definitely not all unicorns and rainbows.  they are gritty and real but extremely well written imo.
